Covers wiped between every guest fail in a specific and predictable place, and it is almost never the surface everybody inspects.

What a sealed edge actually is

Two layers closed with heat or paint, which leaves a seam along every side.

A turned-and-stitched edge folds the material back on itself: no seam to open.

What the sanitiser does to it

Alcohol and quaternary solutions creep into a seam by capillary action.

Once inside, the layers separate from the middle out, where no cloth reaches.

Why it looks fine until it does not

The face of the panel is unmarked, so nobody inspects the perimeter.

By the time an edge lifts visibly, the delamination has run some way in.

What to do about it

Tell your supplier what is in the bottle, and specify the edge against it.

In a heavy-wipe room, pay for stitched edges. It is the cheapest life extension there is.
